Summer Doldrums ?

Have you got the summer blah's?  It seems like most summers gradually slow down to a lazy, lethargic, blah time as it comes to an end.  Then we get that..."yikes, it's nearly winter" blast of energizing energy.  Most children have returned to school now, and are busy learning how to do all the important  stuff.

The rest of us, poor, tired, and in my case, overworked, people need to quietly sit back and plan ways to look busy for the rest of this summer.  Before proceeding you may wish to take a look at this web page.  If you think I was aimlessly browsing the web today looking for ways to make your life easier... you were right.  I was.  That is yet one more service we provide here at the 'ol print shop.   Some people think that all we do is print.   Ha-ha-ha.  Wrong again!  If that was all we did, we would be no different than our competitors!  We do things a bit differently around here.  Does it take longer?...of course.  Is it slower?...some times.  Does it cost more?...you might be surprised.  It is usually cheaper to get it done right the first time!  We wouldn't be the oldest printer in Du Page county if something wasn't being done right.  We like to add our personal touch to each job.

So don't just sit there doing nothing.  Get busy.  Summer is running out!  Look through your printed supplies and see what needs printed, and if any changes need to be done.  Let us help by giving your work a  clean look  We can usually see things that you may have missed due to our sharp eyes.  Together, we can produce something worth printing.

Enjoy what is left of summer!

Tactic or Strategy?

Let me save you a few precious minutes, and read you the definition of these two words.
Tactic...A device for accomplishing an end.
Strategy..A careful plan or method.
Now let me split a few hairs...When people ask us what it is we do we usually say "printing".  That is the big picture view.  What we really do is so much more!  When you come to us for printing, we don't just take your file and print it, we like to help you select the best paper for what you are doing, and offer suggestions on how it can be produced even better.  This is why it is a good idea to get your printer (us) involved early on in your project.  If you want something printed digitally instead of offset, for instance, you need to know why digital paper makes a difference, and also how to layout and design your piece for best results.

One thing that you will miss out on is the "fun" of finding out after a job is printed that there are some design flaws.  We prefer to use our fifty years of experience to gaze into the future and see how your product will be used, and then share this knowledge with you.  OK, here is where the whole Tactic VS Strategy thing comes into play...without taking advantage of your printers knowledge, you are employing a Tactical approach to your printing.  You may very well get where you want to go, but it may not be quite what you expected.  If on the other hand you get your printer (us) involved early on... you are employing a Strategy approach to your printing.  The main difference between the two, is that little word "careful".  This involves brains.  Lots, and lots of brains.

Why not add our know how, and benefit from all the experience we can bring to your job, and get it done right the first time.  Let me end by asking a question.  Do you have trouble making up your mind?  Well, yes-or-no?

Old Dog Shocked !

Every once and awhile, something so odd comes along, that even an old dog like me gets shocked.  The Boss was away a few days ago, and I was very bored and trying to look busy. I decided to Google the word 'paper' and see what was new. I came across This website that shows what is possible to do with paper.  When you get the time click - and - be -shocked.  After spending the last thirty-two years playing with paper, and bending it to my iron will, I now can see just how much I have been missing.

If you have a bright idea to try something with paper, you can always ask your friendly printer for some sample sheets to play with.  The shop where I work is based on sooooo much more than just dollars and cents.  We try to work along with our customers as a part of a much bigger team.  Our shop is like a detached little printing department for our customers.  We provide much more than printing.  Blah, blah, blah.  That all sounded like a sales pitch did'nt it?  Well, it was'nt.  We "lost" a job yesterday with a newer customer who decided to save around $100 dollars by going to a cheaper printer.  This was on a $2500 dollar order.  I would have gladly cut our price to match the low bid...BUT...sometimes the customer has to learn the hard way that saving money can be expensive.  A low ball quote can be like a bit like a fancy owl made from strips of paper...nice to look at, and enjoy, but it will usually not last to long.  Here is the little gem you have been waiting for...beware the low bid!

Ok folks, that's all for now.  This 'ol dog is going back to plop down on the porch and wait for an educated customer to come along.
